Description
Carlos Santana, Mahavishnu John McLaughlin – Love Devotion Surrender is a collaborative album by guitarists Carlos Santana and John McLaughlin, released in 1973. The album features a fusion of jazz, rock, and Indian music, and is considered to be one of the most important albums in the development of jazz fusion.
Santana and McLaughlin had met in 1971, and quickly bonded over their shared love of music and spirituality. They began collaborating on new music, and eventually decided to record an album together. The album was recorded in New York City over the course of several months, and featured a cast of world-class musicians, including Billy Cobham on drums, Jan Hammer on keyboards, and Doan Alias on bass.
Love Devotion Surrender is a challenging and experimental album, but it is also incredibly rewarding. The music is complex and sophisticated, but it is also deeply soulful and moving. Santana and McLaughlin's guitar playing is simply breathtaking, and the supporting musicians are all top-notch.
