Description
King of Rock is the second studio album by American hip hop group Run-D.M.C., released on January 21, 1985, by Profile Records. The album was produced by Russell Simmons and Larry Smith. King of Rock became the first rap album to be released on a CD, and was the third rap album to become a platinum album. The album saw the group adopting a more rock-influenced sound, with several tracks prominently featuring heavy guitar riffs. The song "Roots, Rap, Reggae" features Yellowman, and was one of the first hybrids of rap and dancehall.
King of Rock is considered to be one of the most important and influential hip hop albums of all time. It helped to bring hip hop to a mainstream audience, and showed that the genre could be combined with other musical styles to create something new and innovative. The album was also notable for its positive and empowering messages, which were a welcome change from the gangsta rap that was becoming popular at the time. King of Rock has been cited as an influence by many artists, including Jay-Z, Kanye West, and Eminem.
