Michael Jackson - Thriller - 9836
Tracks
Thriller, the sixth studio album by Michael Jackson, was released on November 29, 1982, by Epic Records. Jackson wanted to create an album where "every song was a killer". With the ongoing backlash against disco music at the time, he moved in a new musical direction, resulting in a mix of pop, post-disco, rock, funk, synth-pop, and R&B sounds. Thriller foreshadows the contradictory themes of Jackson's personal life, as he began using a motif of paranoia and darker themes.
Thriller became the best-selling album of all time worldwide, selling over 70 million copies worldwide. It won a record-setting eight Grammy Awards at the 26th Annual Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year, Record of the Year (for "Beat It"), and Song of the Year (for "Billie Jean"). The album was also inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2008.
Thriller spawned seven number-one singles in the US: "Billie Jean", "Beat It", "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'", "Human Nature", "P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)", "The Girl Is Mine" (a duet with Paul McCartney), and "Thriller".
Thriller is considered one of the most influential albums of all time and is often considered Jackson's best album. It was praised for its musicianship, production, and music videos, which helped to transform the music video into a serious art form. The album is also credited with boosting the popularity of music videos and the increasing popularity of black artists on MTV.
